School of CS & IT organised a seminar on Defensive Security on 21st January 2023. Mr. Mohit Bagria, security engineer at Meesho, presided over the seminar and talked about the need for protecting our data. He is a Jain University gold medallist 2018-19 batch and has 4+ years of experience in Security Operations as well as experience in CEH, ECSA, AWS, and Malware Analysis. The seminar aimed to promote awareness about information security, operation life cycle, and recent cyber security attacks.
Mr. Bagria revealed that different companies use our data without our permission by recording our every activity. He explained how we could use defensive security to keep our data safe and protect our organisation from any phishing and spoofing threats by any unauthorised person. Defensive security is a subset of cyber security that aims to safeguard the organisation in all situations, from a network analysis of the current network to designing a security plan to ensure the effectiveness of any security controls integrated.
He focused on the key point that 'Incident Response' plus 'Defensive Security' equals a secured organisation. The incident response process is a collection of procedures aimed at identifying, investigating and responding to potential security incidents in a way that minimises impact and supports rapid recovery.
In today's day and age, our data is our prized possession, therefore it is very important to keep it safe. It is crucial to look at all the possibilities to safeguard our data from any kind of threat. Furthering this point, Mr. Bagria explained that information security protects sensitive information from unauthorised activities, including inspection, modification, recording, and any disruption or destruction. He mentioned that some of the major cyber security attacks could have been prevented by defensive security. These included the compromised internal system of Uber, leaking of sensitive NATO data, and hacking of US airport websites and Starlink Dish.
In the end, Mr. Bagria took career-related questions from the students and guided them for their future and career. The students were thrilled to have the opportunity of interacting with him and get to know about the importance of data safety.
